Kombat, online since 9 December 2011, is the fanlisting for the two movies based on the video game series Mortal Kombat. The first movie was released in 1995, entitled Mortal Kombat. Its sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, was released in 1997. THE MOVIES Synopses kourtesy of MortalKombat.com § MORTAL KOMBAT (1995) § Nothing In This World Has Prepared You For This... For centuries a tournament has taken place to halt the invasion on Earth Realm. Shang Tsung (Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa), an evil sorcerer from Outworld, has united with Goro (voiced by Gregory Paul Martin), a four-armed prince born half man and half dragon, to secure nine straight victories over countless generations of Earth Realm warriors. Because the sorcerer needs fresh souls, he lures three of Earth Realm's best fighters to a magical island for the Tournament, plotting to steal their souls after having them killed in Kombat. And as it is written, one more victory will no doubt spring an invasion by Outworld on our realm. Raiden (Christopher Lambert), the God of Thunder and Lightning, however, has other plans--to lead the three Earth Realm fighters to victory, including the Chosen One. The Chosen One is Liu Kang (Robin Shou), a Shaolin warrior from the Temple of the Order of Light and a direct descendant of former Mortal Kombat champion Kung Lao. He will stop at nothing to avenge his brother's murder at the hands of Shang Tsung. But Liu Kang fights with resentment, faltering in his focus with rage and anger, which could cost Earth Realm its very existence. It will take the patience of the Shaolin and the guidance of the God of Thunder to prepare Earth Realm's Chosen One for Kombat. Sonya Blade (Bridgitte Wilson), an American Special Forces agent and an extremely independent woman, was in search of her corrupt enemy Kano [Trevor Goddard] when she "accidentally" runs into the Tournament ship. Kano is the leader of the Black Dragon, an underground crime organization responsible for the death of Sonya's partner. Shang Tsung used Kano as bait so that Sonya can board the ship and hence join Mortal Kombat. With the help of Raiden, Sonya will need to learn how to be a team player, enabling her to trust and count on her fellow Earth Realm Kombatants. Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), a successful Hollywood actor, was being tormented by many publications branding him as a phony martial artist. Shang Tsung disguised himself as Cage's sensei, bearing an invitation to the most esteemed martial arts Tournament, presenting the perfect opportunity to prove all doubters wrong and mend his wounded ego. Through the wise direction of Earth Realm's protector, Cage will need to put his ego aside and focus on the true predicament at hand. Earth Realm's heroes will need to use their newly acquired knowledge to overcome not only insurmountable odds, but also their fears, thus drawing on their inner strengths, giving them the abilities they need to win. Because if they do not, it will mean the end of our planet's existence as we know it. These three warriors, along with the God of Thunder, are Earth's only hope in a tournament called Mortal Kombat. § MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION (1997) § Nothing Will Ever Be The Same... Having successfully defended our realm in Mortal Kombat, celebration ensued, involving the heroic Earth Realm fighters, led by Lord Raiden, protector of Earth Realm. But what they don't know is that one thousand years' worth of sacred rules set by the Elder Gods eons ago was on the brink of being violated. A portal of epic proportions enveloped the sky, as Liu Kang's (Robin Shou) victory over Shang Tsung [Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa] brought out the armies of Outworld. An acrimonious emperor was bent on revenge and corruption, and thus he invaded Earth Realm with his dark armies of Outworld. Ten thousand years ago, Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn (Brian Thompson) invaded a once-beautiful and peaceful realm called Edenia. He desecrated, murdered and extracted all life from this once-flourishing realm, murdering the King Jerrod and forcing Queen Sindel (Musetta Vander) to become his bride, adopting her daughter Princess Kitana (Talisa Soto). With the help of the heinous sorcerer Shang Tsung and his Shadow Priests, Kahn concocted a plan to invade Earth Realm without the benefit of winning in the Mortal Kombat Tournament. If Sindel should die, the Shadow Priests prophesized that her spirit would someday be resurrected in Earth Realm. This unholy act would bestow upon Shao Kahn the ability to step through the dimensional gates and reclaim his Queen, but, more importantly, it would enable him to invade Earth Realm. After centuries of waiting patiently to take Earth Realm through Mortal Kombat, Sindel died unexpectedly and Shang Tsung was beaten in the last tournament. Infuriated and humiliated, losing any patience he might have left, Kahn ordered his Shadow Priests to conjure up their dark magic to open a portal to Earth Realm. When the emperor reclaimed his Queen, it allowed him and his minions to finally enter Earth Realm. During his invasion, Kahn triggered a merger between Earth Realm and Outworld, causing our planet to deteriorate while being sucked into a hellish realm of barren wastelands and empty kingdoms. Now, the Outworld armies are hunting down the Earth Realm warriors while our planet falls apart. It will be up to five warriors, to once again save the existence of our realm. Liu Kang, the reigning Mortal Kombat Champion and Chosen One, will be accompanied by his new love Princess Kitana, Sonya Blade (Sandra Hess) and Major "Jax" Briggs (Lynn Williams) to put a halt to Shao Kahn's minions. Lord Raiden (James Remar) will also have to make the most important decision of his life. With such a disastrous situation at hand, the God of Thunder will have to choose whether to watch as the Outworld extermination squads hunt down and take the souls of our warriors, or to sacrifice his own godly powers to join the fight against his own brother. Once again, the fate of our existence is in the hands of Earth Realm fighters. The honor and integrity of Mortal Kombat will be tested by the dark armies of Outworld.
